To Be Creative, or Not to be Creative

There are so many times that we waste time and energy on creativity when it is actually counterproductive.

This can be especially true for ‘mis-matchers’, leaders, rebels, and strong willed individuals.
Do you know when to be creative and when not to be creative?

The fact is that it can actually be extremely counterproductive to be ‘creative’ when an accessible solution already exists. Creativity doesn’t kick in until later in terms of innovating that solution!

Rather than reinventing the wheel, we can ‘match’ what already exists and then use our creativity to build on top of it.

To reinvent the wheel in these situations would be taking time and energy that could be used to ‘build on top of’ the already existing human knowledge-base, at a high level of productivity, and instead using it do re-do something that has already been done.

In essence this is what we are trying to do in the fields of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Neuro-Semantics when we are ‘modeling human excellence” (Read more about NLP modeling here: https://perceptionacademy.com/what-is-modeling-in-nlp-neuro-semantics/)

In modeling subjective experience, we are taking the highest and best of human potential that we can find, and replicating that excellence rather than starting from scratch to ‘figure it all out ourselves’.

Once we can replicate their excellence we can use our creative abilities to build on top of it, and take the best of ‘human knowledge/skill’ and take it to the next level for the next generation/iteration of humanity.

This sounds a lot like collaboration, doesn’t it?

This also sounds a lot like leadership, doesn’t it?

Alfred Korzybski, the man who invented the words Neuro-Linguistic & Neuro-Semantics, the man who coined/popularized the term “the map is not the territory”, also referred to human beings as ‘time-binders’.

Time binding refers to our human ability to pass information/meaning down generationally. Through books, videos, audio recordings, stories, etc. we are able to ‘transcend time’. We, as human beings, are able to read a book from 5000 years ago and in some way peer into the mind of the author(s), the same as if someone had written that book yesterday.

How amazing is that?!

We have generations and generations of potential solutions to your current problems already existing in libraries and databases across the internet.

You also have access to other human beings who have used their lives to consume information, different information than you have, who can potentially offer you extremely valuable feedback to take you and your performances to the next level… if you have the right states of mind to explore, search, relate, and ask. All of the skills of a skilled Neuro-Linguistic Programmer and Neuro-Semanticist.

So rather than wasting your time ‘creatively’ inventing solutions, perhaps you can be more productive seeking already existing solutions.

Some driving questions:

• Who, if anyone, has already solved this problem?
• Is there someone I know who has solved this problem?
• Would they be open to me asking them questions/interviewing them regarding their experience?
• Have I ever solved this problem, or a problem similar to this in structure, in the past? How did I do that?
• How can I utilize already existing knowledge to find a solution in a way that would save me the pain and trouble of trial and error or having to re-invent something that already exists?
