Would You like to Experience More Vitality?

How much vitality do you experience on a day to day basis?

Do you find that you have more than enough energy to get through the day or not enough?

How much more vitality would you like to have access to?

Having suffered with chronic pain and chronic fatigue for a large part of my life, I know a lot about having less than desired vitality.   I used to wake up tired, and struggle with the easiest of activities. One amazing thing I learned throughout my personal growth journey is that humans have a near unlimited source of vitality and motivation within, it is just a matter of removing the blockages that get into the way and dampen our internal energy source.

When it comes to increasing vitality there are so many variables that could be contributing so in this article I want to provide a quick overview of some of the potential contributing factors and some of the things you can do about them.

And because you are an interconnected “mind-body” system I have divided these variables into physical factors and psychological factors (For more information on the mind-body connection read here: https://perceptionacademy.com/einstein-and-psychology-in-7-powerful-sentences/). 

Your physical needs

To the extent that you are effectively meeting your needs you will be unleashing large troves of vitality.   How well are you taking care of your physical needs?

  • Are you getting enough sleep? What is the quality of that sleep?  
  • Are you eating enough? Too much? What is the quality of the food you are putting into your body?  
  • How much do you exercise on a daily/weekly basis?  Are you doing the right types of exercise to manage your physical body?
  • Do you use any mind altering substances?   How much caffeine, alcohol, etc. are you consuming?  Could this be impacting your vitality?

How often do you rest?

In addition to the physical needs above, if you ignore your body’s request for rest, breaks and vacation your vitality will suffer.  

Here are some great questions around resting, breaks and vacation:

  • How often do you rest/take breaks throughout the day? 
  • How effective are you at recognizing when you need a break?
  • How effective are you at listening to your body when it tells you it is time for a break?  
  • Do you need naps?
  • Do you take naps?
  • Do you have time designated as ‘personal time’ in which work is not allowed to intrude?  
  • How many days per week do you take off of work and devote to ‘self-care’? 
  • Do you plan vacations throughout the year? 
  • Do you follow your plans to take time away from work throughout the year?

Psychological Vitality Suckers

If you think about your mind-body system like a computer system, you have a certain amount of battery life throughout the day, how are you managing that battery life.  

Also we have a certain amount of processing power at any given moment.  What are you using that processing power for? 

Here is a list of psychological activities that may be sucking your vitality:

These kinds of thinking and emoting patterns drain will drain your battery and take valuable vitality away from more productive activities.  The more time you spend using your mind-body system in these ways, the less vitality you will have access to throughout the day.

This is just the beginning into the exploration of your vitality and how you can learn to make changes to increase your vitality on a day-by-day, month-by-month, and year-by-year basis.   

The good news:  there are many aspects of your vitality that are in your power.  If I could go from chronically fatigued to running a business, your potential vitality is just waiting for you to unleash it.
