In my previous article I wrote about beginning with the end in mind when goal setting. But in this article we are going to do something magical….

I am going to explain to you how you can totally ‘let go’ of all of your large goals, dreams and visions and still be on target to achieve them.
When you do this you will be able to operate much more joyfully on a day to day basis, you will experience higher levels of fulfillment, and you will experience much less overwhelm, even when your goals are large

The trick is in iteratively tracking your larger goals back to now.
Let me explain…
So let’s say you have a large vision/goal that I believe will take 5 years. Once you have written out your 5 year vision, track back to a 1 year vision.
“Where would I like to be 1 year from now that is aligned with my 5 year vision.
In other words, “where would I need to be 1 year from now in order to be on target for my 5 year vision?”
When you discover this place something magical happens… you can ‘let go’ of your 5 year vision!
Why?
Because if you were to just focus on your 1 year vision you are automatically on target for my 5 year vision!
Now is where this process gets really interesting.
If you take your 1 year vision and chunk it down to the next quarter from now. The question I ask myself is, “Where would I need to be 3 months from now in order to be on target for my 1 year vision?”
And once again, once you have that you can ‘let go’ of your 1 year vision and just focus on the quarterly vision/goals.
From quarterly we can track back to 1 month from now. “Where would I need to be in 1 month in order to be on target for my quarterly vision/outcome?”
And then down to the week, ““Where would I need to be/what would I need to achieve in 1 week in order to be on target for my quarterly vision/outcome?”
And then down to the day, “What do I need to do today to be on target for my weekly goal/vision/outcome?”
Once you do that you can psychologically ‘let go’ of everything ‘above’ it.
Pretty amazing, yes?
If we track this process even farther we can ask, “what will I be doing for the next hour”. “What will I be doing for the next minute”, etc.
And when we track this process all the way back through the hall of mirrors we end up with a pretty fascinating question…
“Who do I need to be, now, in order to be on target with my vision/mission?”. Or in other words, “What state do I need to be in to best accomplish my next task?”.
If all is aligned we can focus on operating from our best states, and still be on target with our larger vision/mission/dreams and goals.
