A Tip for Higher Quality Coaching Clients & Better Results - Perception Academy

A Tip for Higher Quality Coaching Clients & Better Results

As coaches one of our highest goals is to facilitate our clients to self-actualize i.e. to be their best self while becoming their best self. The ironic thing about this is that our best clients are usually the ones who are already ‘self-actualizing’.

In other words, the more we coach our clients towards self-actualization the better quality clients they will become.

So how can we facilitate self-actualization in our clients?

There is a quote from Abraham Maslow, the father of Self-Actualization Psychology which says:

“Getting used to our blessings is one of the most important non-evil generators of human evil, tragedy and suffering” and so it seems one way to facilitate self-actualization is to continually remind ourselves and our clients to count our blessings.

While you are becoming more and working towards your personal outcomes as a coach, how are you ‘being’?  Are you being appreciative of all the good things that you have in your life? Do you, as a coach, have a practice for renewing your appreciation for your blessings?

And while you are facilitating your clients to become more and work towards their outcomes, how do you facilitate them to appreciate the blessings in their lives?

Personally one of the ways I facilitate my coaching clients (and what I help my coaches to help their clients with) is to take some time in the beginning of each coaching session to focus on what’s working. Take some time to flush those out and to appreciate them!

What I have discovered over the past 10+ years of coaching clients and training coaches is that a lot of clients are not trained well to be good clients.  They come into the sessions expecting therapy or expecting the session to run the way that they expect it to run which means that a lot of time clients will dive right into their problem without any time for appreciation or celebration

So as a coach take some time on a regular basis to refresh your appreciation for your own blessings and also to take some time in each coaching session to facilitate your client to appreciate their blessings and what has been working before you dive into the next level problem that they are bringing into the session.

Not only will not this facilitate your clients to become better clients for you, but it will facilitate them to self-actualize which will allow them get better results from your coaching and to be more fulfilled throughout your coaching journey of being, becoming and achieving more.

Coaching questions:

Do you have a process/system for appreciating your blessings?  If you don’t have one but would like one, what would it look like? How do you facilitate your clients to take time to count what is working and to appreciate what they have?
