Neuro-Semantics is about how human beings embody (neuro) meaning (semantics) and you may be wondering what we mean by the word “meaning”. If so that is a great question.

Simply put, meaning refers to what you ‘hold in mind’.
Whatever you “hold in mind” about something is what that something means to you.
When you see a dog what comes to mind? The rain? Being stuck in traffic? What ever you hold in mind about something is what that something means to you.
And as we say in the field of Neuro-Semantics (the study of the embodiment [neuro] of meaning [semantics]), the meaning you give is the instinct you live.
For example, if someone is stuck in traffic one person can make the meaning “I will be late for work and lose my job”.
Someone else can make the meaning, “This delay is protecting me from something bad that would have happened if I was on schedule”, or “This is an opportunity to practice my power of acceptance”.
Three people with three different meanings, each instinctively responds differently when confronted with the experience of traffic.
Have you ever walked outside and tripped over a pile of meaning? Of course not! That’s because ‘meaning’ does not exist in the outside world.
And that is most fascinating because if meaning does not exist in the ‘outside world’ where does it come from?
Meaning comes from the inside out. As human beings, we are the meaning makers!
One more interesting fact about meaning for you…
As babies we are programmed with the meanings of our caretakers, culture, language, social groups, etc. but did you know that you can learn to reprogram the meanings that you learned growing up?
When you understand how meaning making works, how it gets embodied, how to disembody meaning and how to bring meaning to daily activities you better understand others, how they work and how to better connect with, influence and lead them to higher levels of performance, productivity and fulfillment.
More importantly when you understand how meaning works you better understand yourself, you become much more flexible in emotion, behavior and habit, and you can better lead yourself toward enhanced productivity, power, and significance and joy.
